VoxOx: Converging Conversation

VoxOx sounds like a great idea: put all your communication media together in a super-package so you're always connected and can talk/chat/email/text/IM from one power-interface. VoxOx intends to let you "take control" of all your expression outlets. Seems like a decent enough idea, but I'm not sure it's in our best interest to combine our communication (not to mention coalescing our correspondence).



Here's a few potential problems (and more audacious alliterations) I see:

Constantly Connected: I'm not sure I want everyone on my IM list to know that I'm online and checking my MyFace account.

Awkward Accidents: It seems like this is just setting yourself up for an unintentional mis-send. There are some pictures on my cell phone that I just don't think my boss would enjoy.

Employment Entrapment: Now when I'm checking my email in the middle of the night, my managing editor might notice I'm online and shoot an "urgent" IM. Or better yet, try and set up a video conference.

Interconnected Identity Issues: I don't know about you, but my work IM account isn't exactly what I want my SpaceBook friends seeing. Furthermore, I'm not that excited about having my work "friends" writing on my wall or making other attempts to contact me.

Granted, most of these downsides are probably irrelevant or otherwise speculative foolishness. In actuality, life is more and more about staying connected, so why not interconnection integration? Still, we're not quite sure where to put VoxOx. Is it a Skype slayer? VOIP visionary? Communicative communalist or colloquialism collecting capitalist?

It will be interesting to see how VoxOx does in the long run. We're told that the Ox is a sign of prosperity and hard work. Or maybe it's some cryptic way of telling us when beta will become reality, seeing as the "year of the ox" starts January 26^th. Nothing like a few crazy rumors to really get this thing rolling. Crazy like an ox.
